About Us

Have you ever tried to have a conversation with your teenage son or daughter while he or she was listening to music or having a conversation with someone else through their earbuds? Or, have you tried to order dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant from an Italian menu? It is confusing, and efforts to communicate with the teenager oR the waiter are futile. Some teachers and parents have similar feelings after conversing about their students. Teachers often feel that what they were trying to say was not well received by the parent and vice versa.

This failure to communicate hinders the development of practical solutions for their children's academic and social advancement. Furthermore, communication is essential in relationship building, and trust cannot be formed without relationships. When teachers and parents trust each other, they form relationships that lead to student academic and social growth.

Academic Mastery and Reconnection (AMR) is a nonprofit educational services organization. Its mission is to improve student achievement by providing workshops on effective parent and teacher communication about the educational processes and community resources. The organization aims to help parents and teachers create opportunities to explore their respective worlds from each other's perspectives.

For example, one familiar comment teachers make about parents is the perception that parents will not monitor their student's homework completion. Something heard from parents is that teachers send packets home for students to complete but do not supply the parent with explicit instructions for completing the homework. AMR can help by assisting individual (or groups of) teachers and parents with conferences and workshops that deconstruct the lingo that can lead to miscommunication and a lack of trust.

AMR invites you to join us in our quest for improved student academic and social growth by improving collaborative communication between teachers and parents. You can find our contact information on this page below.
